Our journey back to balance

For the best part of the last two decades, Tahbilk has been committed to restoring the delicate environmental balance once known by the Taungurung people.  It is important to us to know that we are moving in a positive direction towards achieving our environmental goals by reducing our carbon emissions. Since 2013 we have reduced our emissions by 45% across the organisation.  With the help of some 160ha of native revegetation on our Estate and the purchase of offsite carbon credits, we continue to be the only winery in Australia accredited carboNZero at a product and organisation level.

We look forward to continuing our efforts to become naturally carbon balanced in the future.

Accredited with Toitu Envirocare

Tahbilk winery and vineyard are accredited carboNZero with Toitu Envirocare. This means that, through a transparent process of measuring emissions, reducing those emissions and offsetting residual emissions, our net calculated carbon emissions equal zero.  We continue to be one of 8 wineries globally to achieve the carboNZero accreditation at a product and organisation level achieving a net 45% reduction in total carbon emissions since 2013.

Wetlands & Wildlife Reserve

In 1995 the first steps were taken to regenerate the Tahbilk Eco trail area. Additional understory vegetation was planted to provide habitat necessary to attract greater numbers of native birds and animals. Prior to opening in 2005, these efforts were complemented by nature walking paths, timber board walks, docking points for the Eco trail boats and two bird hides.

The wetlands and wildlife reserve was opened with the intention of connecting people back to the bush, it continues to be our greatest gift back to the community.
