THE '1927 VINES' STORY ...
These limited release wines are produced from the Estate’s 1927 planted Marsanne vines – some of the oldest in the world.
The fruit is harvested early at high natural acid levels. No chemicals are added and the juice then becomes fully oxidised. The clean juice is fermented at 11° to 15°C with the resultant wine ‘water’ white, flavourless and with high acid. The wine is bottled and then the magic happens.
“It evolves into a wonderful, textural, mineral wine ... it’s a classic ugly duckling to beautiful swan story.” Alister Purbrick |Winemaker & 4th Generation “The beauty of making the wine this way is that it develops in the bottle very slowly and has long term cellaring potential.”
Beginning with the first dedicated ‘1927 Vines’ Marsanne release from the 1998 vintage recognition of the impressive character and complexity of these wines continues to grow from both wine writers and critics through to Wine Show judges with the Trophy and Medal tally increasing year on year.

With six years in the bottle prior to release in 2021, time has only just begun to weave its magic with this ‘1927 Vines’ release. Vivacious ginger spice, lemon curd, and hints of honeysuckle grace a palate of searingly intense citrus and tropical fruits braced by a prodigious mineral-edged acid line that will carry this wine well into the future with further character and complexity still to be realised.
